Word from Wayne: All About The Ducks…

Here we are already, at the beginning of March. It’s hard to believe that the first two months of the year have flown by already – how did they go for you?

For me, I’ve been hard at work implementing our strategic growth plan at AKP. So far, I’ve been getting my ducks in a row, as much as I possibly can.

As you can imagine, there are a lot of moving parts to an ambitious plan like this, so I’ve been trying to get everything in order. It seems like it was inevitable that at least a few of the wild fowl would resist lining up… while a few of the others have totally swum off into the distance for now!

But overall, I think we’ve made good progress. I’ve been head down, and the team have enjoyed the autonomy that comes about through us having a clear vision, achievable targets and meaningful core values. This is a big part of what I want to put into place for the business going forwards, a sense of coherent structure and progression towards meaningful growth targets.

By doing this, I’ve freed myself up from the day-to-day activities to meet with a whole variety of support organisations, customers and stakeholders. All with the goal of herding those pesky ducks into an orderly line – so we can grow our business.

One of the things that’s become clear to me recently is that, sometimes, despite the pressure, you just have to get off the hamster wheel to breathe, take time to think, seek some help and then get your ducks in a row before moving on.

This is true for all of us, I believe, whether it’s for your work or your home life. It’s certainly a philosophy I’ll be encouraging as much as I can within our teams here at AKP as we face the exciting challenges of ambitious growth.
